Geraldine ( Jerry ) Mudge

Geraldine ( Jerry ) Mudge has spoken regularly to grieving parents for 18 years. She started a Christian Ministry called Footprints with the help of some other bereaved moms after the death of her only two sons in a car crash in 1990. Her tragic experience has made her a uniquely fit vessel God uses to bring comfort to those who are hurting over the loss of any family member.

Jerry and her husband and soul mate Skip work with a ministry called Griefshare. This ministry is a national organization that works with churches all over the country using the Griefshare video series that is designed to help families heal from the pain of loss. Together they helped found a beautiful and peaceful community memorial garden in her community of Charlotte N.C., called Our Children’s Memorial Walkway Inc. (www.ocmw.org). Families from over 20 states have memorialized loved ones on an engraved brick in that garden.

Jerry and Skip also have a program called Choices to help young people avoid making the same bad choices as her sons did the night they died while driving drunk. She has spoken to over 50,000 middle and high school students on the dangers of substance abuse in her community of Mecklenburg County N.C. She shares her powerful and compelling story with the young people and God is using Choices to save the lives of young people. She and Skip also take their program to church youth groups to encourage them to avoid drugs and alcohol.

Jerry accepted Christ as her Savior in 1956 and has actively served in churches for more than 50 years. She has served as Sunday school teacher, youth group leader and for many years was a active member of the Lutheran Missionary League at her local church, even serving as the zone LWML chairperson for Mecklenburg County. After the death of her first husband Leon, who she was married to for 35 years, Jerry joined another church and there headed the Women’s Missionary Union for three years. Jerry is a trained Stephen Minister, (www.stephenministries.org). The Stephen Series is a complete system for training and organizing lay people to provide one-to-one Christian care to hurting people in and around their congregation. She brings hope to bereaved families that with God’s help they can heal from the loss of a child or any loved one.

Another of Jerry’s passions is helping churches learn how to assist grieving families in their congregations. She believes this awareness is so important because many people leave their churches after the loss of a loved one because they feel the church does not care about them. Finally, Jerry is equally passionate about helping women to grow in Christ and welcomes the opportunity to do so when given the opportunity to speak to them in group settings or in one-on-one meetings.
